The 14th Stated Meeting of Evangel Presbytery was hosted by Sovereign King Church in Jeffersonville, IN on Friday, February 16th.

Worship and Communion

We started the day with our morning worship service and communion. Elder Gary Knapp preached 1 Thessalonians 2:1-12, giving us a warm exhortation to do the work of the ministry.

Business Begins

Business began with seating members and visiting brethren, adopting the docket and last meeting’s minutes, appointing a parliamentarian (Daniel Meyer), and hearing the Stated Clerk and Treasurer’s reports. Many thanks to treasurer John Kluge for all his work in shaping up the budget!

We then heard from our Ad Interim Committee on New Doctrinal Positions Section of the BCO (AICCODPSC for short!) This committee is to determine whether parts of the BCO need to be moved to a new section or to an entirely new constitutional category. Chapters 28 & 29 of the BCO, Declaration of Doctrine and Policies Concerning Sexuality & Abortion and the Church: What We Teach, are specifically in mind. The committee found that a new constitutional category would be best: Doctrinal Declarations of the Presbytery. Two more members were added to the committee as they continue their work. We look forward to seeing the fruit of their labor.

Candidates and Credentials

Next, we heard from our Committee on Candidates and Credentials. New Geneva Academy student, Mikhail Likhtar from Trinity Presbyterian Church, Spartanburg, gave his testimony and sense of call to ministry. He was accepted and is now under care of Presbytery. Fellow NGA student, Matt Shifflett, also from Trinity Presbyterian Church, was then examined for licensure. He preached an assigned passage to Presbytery (John 3:1-21), and was examined on the floor. Both the sermon and exam were sustained and he is now licensed to preach regularly. Congratulations men!

After lunch we heard updates from two of our churches, Holy Trinity Reformed Church, Camby, and Sovereign King Church, Jeffersonville, and our church plants. Please be in prayer for our church plants, there is always much labor going on behind the scenes.

Wrapping up

We finished the meeting with a report from the Sessional Records Committee, and the electing of our new moderator, Pr David Abu-Sara.

Our next stated meeting will be Thursday, June 6, 2024 at Trinity Reformed Church, Bloomington, Indiana. See you there!

Many thanks to Bradley Crone for taking the excellent photos! These are also being used for our website.
